Updates on Gopher Recruits

Dusti Russell placed second in the all around at the Wisconsin State Meet. At the state level, Russell was the bars and floor champion, earning an impressive floor score of 9.825. Russell was the state runner up on beam. At the Region 4 meet, she placed third in the all around, winning on beam and floor. Russell qualified for the JO Nationals for the fifth time, where she finished 12th in the all around and placed ninth on floor. The Region 4 Team won the national meet. Russell will be graduating from Oshkosh West High School this spring, and is currently training at Oshkosh Gymnastics.
Kalya Slechta spent much of the season recovering from an ankle injury. At the Minnesota State Meet, she competed on only two events, bars and beam. Her first competition in all four events was the Region 4 meet, where she finished eighth in the all around, fourth on bars, and third on floor. Slechta will graduate from Shakopee High School this spring, and trains at Classic Gymnastics in Chanhassen, Minn.
Megan Alvarez was also limited by injury in the 2010 season. She competed on bars and beam at the Illinois State Meet, and qualified for the Region 5 Meet. At the regional, Alvarez finished ninth on bars and 12th on beam. She will graduate from Willowbrook High School and is currently training at the Illinois Gymnastics Institute.
Alex Feeken finished in sixth place at the Florida State Meet, and placed fifth on bars. She went on to the Region 8 Meet, where she came in eighth in the all around, fourth on bars, and fifth on beam. Feeken qualified for the JO Nationals for the first time, and came in 31st in the all around and 22nd on bars. Feeken will graduate from Keystone National High School in Tampa, and is training at LaFleur's Gymnastics.
Dusti Russell and Kayla Slechta signed National Letters of Intent with the Gophers last fall, while Megan Alvarez and Alex Feeken signed Acceptance of Admission forms. All four will join the Minnesota team this fall.
