Minnesota Hosts Michigan at the Metrodome

Minnesota will host a three-game Big Ten series against Michigan at the Metrodome on Friday, May 7 at 6:35 p.m., Saturday, May 8 at 2:05 p.m. and Sunday, May 9 at 1:05 p.m.

All three games can be heard on KLBB (1220 AM) and in the Gold Zone. On Saturday, May 8, Minnesota will honor the 1960, 1970 and 2000 teams prior to the game.

Minnesota wrapped up its six-game road trip with a 4-2 record by defeating No. 20 Kansas State 3-0 on May 5.  The Golden Gophers enter the series with a 20-26 overall record and are tied for third in the Big Ten at 8-7. Michigan enters the series with a 28-15 overall record and is tied with Northwestern for first place in the Big Ten at 9-6.

The Golden Gophers are led by sophomore Nick O'Shea who is batting .346 with a team-leading 10 home runs, a team-best 39 RBI, and is batting .400 (8-for-20) with five home runs, 12 RBI and six runs in the month of May. Junior Michael Kvasnicka (Lakeville, Minn.) is batting .354 with six home runs, 36 RBI, and leads the team in doubles (19), walks (36) and on-base percentage (.465). Matt Puhl is also batting .338 with 13 doubles, 26 runs and has a season-best 13-game hitting streak heading into the week.

Seth Rosin will take the mound for the Golden Gophers on Friday. Rosin is 4-4 with a 4.43 ERA and 58 strikeouts in 69.0 innings. He has only walked three batters in 69.0 innings and leads the NCAA in fewest walks per nine innings. Freshman TJ Oakes will pitch on Saturday, and is 3-3 with a 4.19 ERA and 39 strikeouts in 58.0 innings. Lefthander Phil Isaksson, who will throw on Sunday, is 4-0 with a team-leading 3.16 ERA and has 43 strikeouts in 57.0 innings.

Michigan defeated Western Michigan 9-8 on May 4. Last week, Michigan defeated Ohio State in two out of three games at home, claiming the first game 4-1, losing the second game in 10 innings 3-2 and winning the third game 6-5. The Wolverines are led by Chris Berset who is batting .385 with 39 runs, four home runs and 37 RBI. Patrick Biondi leads the team with 24 stolen bases, 53 runs, has 28 RBI and is batting .326. Coley Crank has a team-high seven home runs, a team-best 46 RBI, is batting .349 and has 38 runs. Ryan LaMarre is batting .440 (37-for-84) with 26 runs, two home runs and 19 RBI in 22 games.

Pitching wise, Michigan is led by Tyler Burgoon who is 6-2 with eight saves, a 3.08 ERA and 61 strikeouts in 52.2 innings in 18 appearances. Brandon Sinnery is also 4-0 with a save, a 3.24 ERA and 27 strikeouts in 41.2 innings. Alan Oaks is also 4-5 with a 3.93 ERA and has 54 strikeouts in 66.1 innings.
