The incoming group of Golden Gopher freshmen continued to have strong senior campaigns with the performances of Kyle Crocker and Matt Halloran in the Minnesota High School State Tournament. Halloran and Crocker were both named to the Class AAA State Baseball Tournament All-Tournament team. Halloran helped lead Eden

Prairie High School to the Class AAA State Title and a 26-1 final record, and Crocker guided Brainerd High School to the Consolation Championship in Class AAA.

In three contests in the State Tournament, Halloran reached base in 10 of 12 plate appearances, went 6-for-8, knocked in six runs and did not allow a single stolen base to the opposition.

Last week, future Golden Gopher hurler Tom Windle was named the 2010 Star Tribune Metro Player of the Year. Windle was 6-1 with a 0.95 ERA and struck out 73 batters in 51.2 innings this season. Windle and another future Golden Gopher pitcher, D.J. Snelten, were also drafted in the 2010 Major League Baseball Draft.

Halloran also received First-Team All-Metro honors, as he knocked in 33 runs on the season and collected three home runs. Snelten finished the season 4-1 with a 3.73 ERA and struck out 64 batters in 35.2 innings.

Future Golden Gopher Bobby Juan was also named to the Wisconsin Gatorade Player of the Year as well. Juan was batting .556 with 13 home runs and 33 RBI heading into the state tournament. He also was 6-1 with a 1.30 ERA and 58 strikeouts in 32.2 innings. Juan was joined by future teammate Michael Handel in being named First-Team All-State.
