Twelve Rowers Named Academic All-Big Ten

University of Minnesota rowers added to their academic resume as 12 individuals were named to the Spring 2010 Academic All-Big Ten Team. Earning a spot as an Academic All-Big Ten honoree were Erika Berg, Debbie Brzozowski, Rebekah Brzozowski, Christine Cira, Cassie Drozynski, Nicolle Fisher, Shannon Gates, Teresa Logemann, Katelyn Nichols, Michele Peterson, Jenna Schuder and Linnea Trandem.

To be eligible for Academic All-Big Ten selection, student-athletes must be letterwinners in at least their second academic year at their institution and carry a career grade-point average (GPA) of 3.0 or better. 

In all, 126 U of M student athletes earned Academic All-Big Ten honors and 1,037 members throughout the conference. The list of student-athletes features 79 baseball players, 71 softball players, 117 women's rowers, 40 women's and 54 men's golfers, 55 women's and 50 men's tennis standouts, 191 women's and 145 men's track and field athletes and 134 women's (representing water polo, ice hockey, fencing, synchronized swimming, lightweight rowing, lacrosse, pistol and rifle) and 101 men's (representing ice hockey, volleyball, lacrosse, fencing, rowing, pistol and rifle) at-large athletes.

Prior to the All-Big Ten honors, seven Gophers were named CRCA Scholar Athletes, which included GPAs of 3.5 or higher. Minnesota's honorees were Erika Berg, Rebekah Brzozowski, Christine Cira, Shannon Gates, Michele Peterson, Jenna Schuder and Linnea Trandem. It was the third-straight year for Cira and Peterson, the second-straight year for Brzozowski, Gates and Trandem and the first for Berg and the Schuder.
