Gopher Baseball Summer Update

The Minnesota baseball team has several players who are performing well in summer leagues, and former players who are having a good stretches in the Minor Leagues.

Austin Lubinsky enters the weekend at 2-1 with a 1.89 ERA in 33.1 innings for the Brewster Whitecaps, who are currently the top team in the Cape Cod League. Lubinsky's 33.1 innings are the most of any pitcher on the Whitecaps. Shortstop AJ Pettersen is batting .279 with 18 runs and six stolen bases for the Hyannis Harbor Hawks in the Cape Cod League. Pettersen's 18 runs leads the team, and he is also second in batting average.

Kurt Schlangen is also batting .353 with 14 runs, 14 RBI and eight stolen bases for the North Fork Ospreys in the Hamptons Collegiate League. He is second in the league in batting average and played in the All-Star game.

In the minor leagues, former Golden Gopher Glen Perkins is 3-0 with a 1.82 ERA in his last four starts for the Triple-A Rochester Red Wings (Minnesota Twins). Nate Hanson is batting .254 with 10 doubles, seven home runs and 24 RBI for the Fort Myers Miracle in the Florida State League (Minnesota Twins). His seven home runs lead the team, and he is currently on a seven-game hitting streak. Reid Mahon is also 2-3 with three saves and a 3.78 ERA. He went 2-0 with a 1.80 ERA in six appearances in June.

Michael Kvasnicka is batting .364 with four runs and has a hit in each of his last five games for the Tri-City Valley Cats Short-Season team (Houston Astros). Kyle Knudson went 4-for-5 with with four RBI on July 18, and is batting .407 with runners in scoring position for Minnesota Twins Rookie League team. Knudson has also knocked in 16 runs. Seth Rosin is 1-0 with a 2.57 ERA in seven innings for the San Francisco Giants Short-Season team.
