Constable Qualifies for United States Amateur

Constable, who will be a senior this fall for the Gophers, carded a 36-hole score of four under par 138 (70-68) for a four shot victory. He finished as the only player in the field with a score under par.
The 2010 United States Amateur will be played Aug. 23-29 at Chambers Bay near Seattle, Wash. The 7,754 yard par 71 course was designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr. and will be holding a major championship for the first time. Further information regarding the championship can be found here.
Constable has played well all summer. He won the 2010 North & South Amateur Championship title, finished runner-up 2010 MGA Players Championship and runner-up at the 2010 Minnesota State Amateur. He also missed qualifying for this year's U.S. Open at Pebble Beach by one stroke.
A four-year letter winner at Minnetonka High School, he finished his scholastic career as a four-time All-Classic Lake Conference selection and went on to play two full years at the University of Texas before transferring back to his home state of Minnesota prior to the start if the spring golf season.
Constable played in five tournaments for the Gophers as a junior during the spring season. He posted a stroke average of 74.81, the second-best on the team. He was Minnesota's top finisher at the Big Ten Championships in May with a 16th place finish.
The Gophers will open the 2010-11 season by hosting the sixth annual Gopher Invitational on Sept. 12-13 at Spring Hill Golf Club in Wayzata, Minn. Minnesota finished third in last year's event.
