Gophers Set For Windon Invitational

2010 Windon invitational: Coming off a seventh place finish at the seventh annual Gopher Invitational, Minnesota heads to Chicago this weekend to play in the Windon Memorial Classic at North Shore Country Club in Glenview, Ill.
The 14th annual classic will play at a yardage of 7,067 yards with a par of 71. Live scoring will be available at www.golfstat.com.
Hosted by Northwestern University, the tournament will feature a 36-hole shotgun format with two 18-hole rounds starting on Sunday, Sept. 26 and ending Monday, Sept. 27.
Joining Minnesota and Northwestern in the field of 15 are fellow Big Ten schools, Indiana, Purdue, Ohio State, Penn State, and Michigan, as well as national programs California, Kent State, Marquette, Tennessee, Tulsa, Princeton, UC Davis, Costal Carolina, Florida Atlantic, and Long Beach State.
Tournament Notes: Minnesota is a three time champion of the Windon Memorial Classic, having won the tournament in 1994 at Kemper Lakes and Royal Melbourne and1998 and 2003 at North Shore Country Club.
The individual champion at the Windon has been a "who's who" of golf with the likes of Casey Martin (Stanford), Josh McCumber (Florida ), Luke Donald (Northwestern) and Hunter Mahan (Oklahoma State) taking home the title. Two Gophers' have stood on the individual podium, as Adam Dooley in 1998 and Clayton Rask in 2007 came back to Minneapolis with the hardware.
Stanford's Tiger Woods finished runner up to McCumber in the 1995 classic.
The Gophers: The Gopher's lineup will include one change from last week, as senior Cameron White will replace Tim Peterzen. Joining White in the tournament field will be fellow senior Donald Constable and sophomores Erik Van Rooyen, Shang Zhi, and David Haley Jr.
Last Time Out: The Gophers opened their 2010 season by hosting the sixth annual Gopher Invitational at Spring Hill Golf Club in Wayzata, Minn. Posting a three round score of 902 (+38), Minnesota finished the 11 team tournament in seventh place.
Constable led the Gophers with a 13th place finish, while Rooyen ended the tournament in 16th place with a team low final round score of 76. Zhi finished in a tie for 33rd place, Haley ended in 39th, and Peterzen finished 53rd.
Up Next: Minnesota will head to Durham, N.C. to play in the Rod Myers Invitational from Oct. 8-11.
