Price was the only Gopher to finish in the top 25 as Minnesota scored 185 team points. Arizona won the race with 78 points, topping the 29-team field which included nine teams that competed in the 2009 NCAA Championships. New Mexico finished second with 102 points. Despite the seventh-place showing, the Gophers bettered a trio of nationally ranked teams (North Carolina State, Penn State and Arizona State).

North Carolina State freshman Laura Hoer and Price broke away from the lead pack late in the race and battled to the finish line. Hoer ran a time of 20:38.40 to edge Price and become the first freshman Griak Gold medalist since 1999.
“We ran pretty well,” said Golden Gopher head coach Gary Wilson. “This was an amazingly talented field and I was looking forward to seeing how our young team would respond. They did well overall. Of course we have lots of room for improvement but it’s September. We can learn a lot from today’s race.”
Redshirt freshman Missa Varpness was the second finisher for the Gophers, finishing 28th overall in her first career Griak and clocking a time of 21:46.40, also a career best. True freshman Ashlie Decker, who ran to Griak runner-up honors twice in high school, was 39th in a time of 21:56.90.
Completing the scoring the Gophers was Nikki Swenson in 49th with a time of 22:06.75 and Kayla Wagner in 68th-place in 22:23.30.
