Gophers Host First Practice of the Year

As most University of Minnesota students gear up for the spring semester this week, the Gopher softball program opened the 2011 season with its first week of practice before gearing up for the season opener next month.

The 2011 season marks the program's first year under head coach Jessica Allister, who was hired in August as the sixth head coach in Minnesota softball history. Allister and the Gophers have 20 preseason practices leading up the season opening Hotel Encanto Invitational from Feb. 12-13 in Las Cruces, N.M.  The Gophers kick off the 2011 season against New Mexico State on Feb. 12 at 4 p.m. CST before playing Colorado State at 6 p.m. The following day, Minnesota meets Northern Colorado at 10 a.m. and closes out the tournament with another matchup against New Mexico State at 12:30 p.m.
