Minnesota Tied for 11th After Two Rounds in Raleigh

Through day one of the Wolfpack Intercollegiate in Raleigh, N.C., the Golden Gophers are in 11th place. They recorded a two-round team score of 594 (+26). Erik Van Rooyen led the Gophers, shooting a 72 in each of his two rounds today. He is tied for 12th at +2.
After the Gophers' third-place finish at the Fighting Irish Classic last week, 11th place is not where they would have liked to start the final round, but head coach John Carlson said that his team played well over the last nine holes, which could give them some momentum toward having a better day tomorrow. The Gophers also received a good performance from Van Rooyen.
"He played well despite leaving a few shots out there," Carlson said. "His ball striking was pretty solid all day."
Van Rooyen is seven shots behind leader Robert Hoadley of UNC-Greensboro. Robert Bell posted rounds of 73 and 75, putting him at +6 (t-35th). Jon Trasamar shot a 77 in his first round, and then cut three strokes off that score in the second round. David Haley Jr. recorded one of the field's four eagles on the day, on the par-5 seventh in round two after birdying the two previous holes. Haley played two rounds of 76. Tyler Lowenstein started the day with a first-round 81, and improved by six strokes to a 75 in the second round.
The Gophers' first round score was 298, which they lowered to 296 in the second round. Memphis leads the field with a 3-over-par total of 571. Louisiana-Lafayette (574) and Campbell (575) are in second and third, respectively.
