Exciting Preseason on Tap for Minnesota Women's Basketball

Now that practice is underway and the 2011-12 season is just on the horizon, the Minnesota women's basketball team has an exciting preseason on tap, not only for itself, but for its fans as well.
Preseason excitement kicks off with Minnesota Men's and Women's Basketball Media Day Oct. 13 in the media room at Williams Arena, before being highlighted by Hoopla on Oct. 16.
An annual event hosted by the Gopher Sports Marketing team, Hoopla is open to the public and free of charge and provides an opportunity for Golden Gopher fans to get a first glimpse at the 2011-12 squad.
The doors to Williams Arena will open at 10:30 a.m., and attendees can find a seat to watch the last hour of the Gophers' practice that day. From 11:30 a.m.-12 p.m., fans will be treated to a team scrimmage, before the squad takes time to sign autographs from 12 p.m.-1 p.m.
As an exclusive benefit, CURRENT members of the Fast Break Club, as well as 2011-12 women's basketball season ticketholders, will have the opportunity to enjoy lunch in the Williams Arena Club Room from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m.
Following the Hoopla event, Minnesota will host its Tip-Off Dinner Oct. 17 at Crave in Edina. The event will begin with registration and a social hour from 5 p.m. - 6 p.m., with dinner and a program beginning directly afterward. The cost to attend the event is $40 per person for current Fast Break Club members and $50 per person for non-Fast Break Club members. Space is limited and the deadline for registration is October 10. A registration form for this event can be found at www.fastbreakclub.net.
Head coach Pam Borton and the squad will conclude the month of October with Big Ten Media Day on Oct. 27, before opening the month of November by hosting a pair of exhibition games vs. St. Cloud State and Bemidji State on Nov. 2 and Nov. 6, respectively, at the Barn.
The Golden Gophers will then have only three practices remaining until they travel to Daytona Beach, Fla., for their season-opener vs. Arkansas as part of the WBI Tip-Off Tournament. The team will return to Minneapolis for its home opener Nov. 19 vs. Binghamton as part of the Subway Classic.
