Minnesota men's golf head coach John Carlson announced that Jon DuToit has signed a National Letter of Intent to play golf for the Golden Gophers. He will be eligible to compete during the 2012 fall season.
"I'm really excited to have Jon DuToit joining us," Carlson said. "He's my only recruit coming from the 2012 class, and it will be great to have him as a Gopher."
DuToit, a senior at Chaska High School, boasts six high school and summer tournament victories in 2011. He won the Minnesota State Junior Boys' Championship in July. He came back from four strokes down in the second round, and then won in a playoff. His two-round score was 4-over 144.
He also posted impressive finishes in other tournaments during 2011. DuToit tied for third in the Minnesota Class 3A state tournament in June with a score of 2-over 146. In the summer, he tied for fourth in the AJGA's W. Duncan MacMillan Classic at Rush Creek, and tied for sixth in the 2011 Minnesota State Amateur.
DuToit had an impressive year in 2010, as well. He was the Chaska Town Course Club champion, and Nike Junior champion.
"It feels great to finally be a part of the University of Minnesota golf program," DuToit said. "It has been a dream of mine ever since I was a young kid, and now I get to look forward to great success with Gopher golf."
