Gophers Finish Seventh at Big Ten Match Play

In the first match of the day against the Wolverines, Minnesota was able to win two head-to-head contests but dropped four to walk away with a loss. Sophomores Erik Van Rooyen and Jon Trasamar were the two victorious Gophers.
Slotted against Purdue later in the afternoon however, the Gophers won three, lost two, and halved one to earn the win over the Boilermakers. Senior Donald Constable turned in a dominant performance, knocking off Purdue's top player Adam Schneck 7&6. Van Rooyen havled his match in the #2 position, Shang Zhi won his contest 3&2, while Trasamar continued his impressive tournament with another win.
Northwestern defeated Indiana, 4-2 in the championship match to take home the Big Ten Match Pay crown for the second straight season.
The Big Ten Match Play was the first event of the spring season for the Gophers.
Minnesota is off until March 5 when it heads back to Florida for the Alumni Challenge in Naples. The Gophers will have six tournaments remaining on the spring schedule following the event.
