Gophers Finish 12th at Central District Invite

Minnesota posted a round of 303 in the final round of the Central District Invitational on Tuesday to finish in 12th position with a 54-hole total of 906 in Parrish, Florida.

The Gophers finished remarkably consistent as a team, with their top four golfers all ending within four strokes of one another. Teresa Puga posted a 77 over her final 18 holes to finish the event with a team best tie for 30th in the standings. Mary Narzisi concluded the tournament one behind Puga at 227 after a 76 in the final round.

Michele Edlin was next with a 288 following a 74 on Tuesday for 41st place, while Banchalee Theinthong ended the two day event with a 229 and a tie for 45th. Samantha Sommers finished with an 81 to place 69th.

Iowa State carded the lowest round of the day to earn a comfortable victory over second place LSU with an 868. Texas A&M finished third with TCU fourth and tournament host Michigan State rounding out the top five.

Austin Ernst of LSU shot an even-par 72 to earn medalist honors by one stroke over Brooke Beeler of TCU.

The Gophers will now be off until after spring break when they head to Tucson, Ariz. for the Mountain View Collegiate Invitational.
