Junior Chimerem Okoroji continued her impressive performances in her junior season as the Minnesota women’s track & field team opened their outdoor season this weekend and the Bulls Invitational in Tampa, Fla.

Okoroji anchored the 4x100-meter relay to a victory in a time of 45.29 seconds, the third-best relay time in Gopher history. She teamed with Alena Brooks, Nyoka Giles and Linnea Johnson. Okoroji also dashed to a sixth-place finish in the 200 meters with a career-best time of 24.26, good for number-eight on the Gophers’ top-10 list in that event.

Redshirt freshman Katie Moraczewski ran the 3,000-meter steeplechase for the first time in her Gopher career and won the event with the 10th-best time in Minnesota history of 11:08.27. Paige Orcutt was second in 11:38.74.

The Gophers swept the middle distance events. Brooks added the win in the 800 meters with a time of 2:09.41, while Elizabeth Yetzer captured the title in the 1,500 meters in 4:22.75.

Minnesota went 1-2 in the 5,000 meters with Stephanie Price winning in 16:50.09, followed by Laura Docherty in second in a time of 17:25.68.

Giles clocked a career-best time 55.89 in the 400 meters in finishing second. The time ranks ninth on the Gophers’ all-time list.

Natalie Devine was the only Gopher to capture a victory in a field event, winning the high jump with a height of 5-6. The Gophers did get two runner-up performances by Nikki Tzanakis in the discus (165-9) and Adienne Thomas in the long jump (18-7 3/4).
