Gophers Earn Eight Big Ten Academic Awards

As the winter term of the 2010-11 school year comes to a close, the conference office recognizes a total of 524 winter sports athletes who have been named Academic All-Big Ten.

The list of honored student-athletes features 37 men's and 55 women's basketball players, 42 men's and 46 women's gymnasts, 100 men's and 181 women's swimming and diving athletes and 63 wrestlers. To be eligible for Academic All-Big Ten selection, student-athletes must be letterwinners who are in at least their second academic year at their institution and carry a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher.

Included among those student-athletes were eight University of Minnesota men's gymnasts. Ali Aleiou (Sr., Brookfield, Wis.), Russell Dabritz (Jr., Rowley, Mass.), Travis Heaver (Sr., Mendota Heights, Minn.), Michael Hillin (Sr., San Antonio, Texas), Jesse Moravec (So., Rochester, Minn.), Michael Paulus (Sr., Maple Grove, Minn.), DJ Repp (Jr., Albuquerque, N.M.) and Josh Wokurka (So., Lombard, Ill.) all earned the honor for the Gophers.
