3/5/2011 12:00:00 AM | Women's Track & Field

Samantha Sonnenberg won the pole vault title at the Iowa State Qualifier in Ames, Iowa, on Saturday, but came up short in her goal of earning an automatic berth into next week’s NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships. Sonnenberg cleared a height of 13 feet, 9 1/4 inches.

Sonnenberg, a 2010 All-American, should receive an at-large invitation into the Championships field. Her season-best vault of 13-11 1/4 entered the weekend tied for No. 10 on the national performance list.

Junior Becca Pilkerton also competed on Saturday, finishing fifth with a height of 12-7 1/2.

The final list of NCAA Championships participants will be released early next week. Texas A&M will host the meet, March 11-12, in College Station, Texas.
