Gophers Off to Illini Spring Classic

Overview: The Minnesota men's golf team will head to Champaign-Urbana this weekend to take part in the Illini Spring Classic on Sat. April 16 and Sun. April 17. Hosted by the University of Illinois, the three round event will be played at the par 72, 7,108 yard Stone Creek Golf Club.

Competing against the Gophers will be 12 other schools, eight of which hail from the Big Ten conference.  In order of national rank according to Golf Week , the tournament field will include Illinois (12), Ohio State (23), Indiana (34), Michigan (42), Purdue (44), Northwestern (56), Penn State (68), Minnesota (69), Xavier (108), Akron (114), Illinois State (150), Michigan State (157), Wisconsin (190) and Creighton (220).

The event will begin at 8:00 a.m. each day, with the first two rounds played on Saturday and a shotgun start beginning the final round on Sunday.

The Gophers : Minnesota's lineup for the weekend will feature Donald Constable , Erik Van Rooyen , Jon Trasamar , Robert Bell , and Shang Zhi .

Last Time Out: The Gophers earned a fifth place finish at the 12 team LSU Invitational in Baton Rouge, La. Donald Constable finished third after shooting  a final round, four-under par 68, the best score of the day. Erik Van Rooyen also posted a strong showing with a sixth place finish after a consistent weekend of play.

Up Next: Minnesota will travel to Columbus to partake in the Robert Keppler Invitational on Sat. April 23 and Sun. April 24th.
