Slechta Competes at NCAA Championships

Freshman Kayla Slechta competed at the NCAA Championships in Cleveland, Ohio, today. Slechta scored 38.60 in the all around, placing 18th in her session, and 29th overall.
Slechta started on bars, where she earned a 9.70, good for 38th place in her session. After bars, Slechta moved to beam, and recorded a 9.175 after a fall. She rebounded on floor, earning a 9.85 to tie for ninth place in the session, her highest finish of the competition. In her final event, Slechta earned a 9.875 on vault, tying for 11th place. Slechta continued her streak, earning a 9.80 or better on vault in every meet of the season.
Slechta was the first Golden Gopher freshman to qualify as an all around competitor for the NCAA Championships as a freshman since Marie Roethlisberger in 1987. She finished her first season at Minnesota ranked No. 4 on the school's all-time top scorers list on vault, and is the secon-highest scoring freshman on vault in team history. She earned second team All-Big Ten honors, and was Minnesota's nominee for Big Ten Freshman of the Year.
