Brock Spandl Earns Big Ten Weekly Honor

Minnesota Brock Spandl can add another career first to his resume as the Gopher senior was named the Co-Big Ten Field Event Athlete of the Week after his performance in his first career decathlon last weekend. Spandl placed second at the California Invitational Decathlon scoring 7,384 points, the sixth-best score in Gopher history in the event. His score tops the Big Ten this season and ranks 17th in the nation.

Spandl’s top event performance in the decathlon was in his specialty, the pole vault. Spandl cleared a season-best height of 17-0 3/4.

Spandl shared the weekly honor with Penn State thrower Joe Kovacs.
