University of Minnesota left-handed pitcher Tom Windle (Maple Grove, Minn.) has been named Big Ten Freshman of the Week after his performance in the Gophers' three-game sweep at Indiana.

Windle picked up the win in Minnesota's 3-2 victory on Saturday, working four perfect innings in relief of starter T.J. Oakes and striking out four Hoosier batters. He threw 47 pitches, 35 of which were strikes, to help the Gophers hold on for the one-run win in the opening game of the weekend series.

It marks the second time this season that Windle has been honored by the conference, as he earned Co-Big Ten Freshman of the Week with Illinois' Thomas Lindauer on March 22.

For the season, Windle has made 10 appearances, posting a record of 3-2 with a 3.10 earned run average. He has 18 strikeouts in 20.1 innings pitched, and ranks third on the team among pitchers with at least 10 innings pitched by holding opposing batters to a .256 average.

Minnesota (14-15, 6-6 Big Ten) is scheduled to play host to South Dakota State (23-11) on Tuesday at 3:05 p.m. at Siebert Field, and then travels to Brookings, S.D., to face the Jackrabbits on Wednesday at 3:05 p.m. The Gophers play host to Iowa this weekend at Target Field, with games set for Friday at 3:05 p.m., Saturday at 1:05 p.m., and Sunday at 1:05 p.m. All five games this week can be heard live in the Gold Zone.
