Gophers Cross Border to Face Wisconsin

The University of Minnesota rowing team crosses the border to battle Wisconsin, Sunday, May 1st. Action begins at 8 a.m. at the Porter Boathouse and Lake Mendota. The Gophers will travel their full squad as they take on the Wisconsin Badgers. The event will be the final tune-up before heading to the Big Ten Championships, May 15th. The dual marks the first home event for UW in nine years.
IN THE LAST COMPETITION
Minnesota competed at the Charles River Challenge (April 17-18) in Boston, Mass. The Gophers' Second Varsity Eight won both of it's flights, while the Gophers' First Varsity Eight finished second in the Sunday flight. Wisconsin was also idle last weekend after it competed at the Lake Natoma Invite. The Badgers' Varsity Eight finished third behind Tennessee and Notre Dame, while the 2V8 and the Varsity Four defeated the Fighting Irish and the Lady Vols.
IN THE RANKS
Wisconsin is currently ranked 13th in the April 27th CRCA/USRowing Coaches Poll. Also ranked in the Big Ten is Michigan State (8), Ohio State (10) and Michigan (16), while Minnesota and Indiana are receiving votes.
PROJECTED LINEUPS
The Varsity Eight boats have yet to be determined. Minnesota's First Varsity Four is scheduled to have Nicolle Fisher, Sarah Sobek at stroke, Maddy Bourgeois, Katie Anderson and Alexandria Voss. In the Second Varsity Four is Emilie Sabourin, Caitlin Boon, Debbie Brzozowski, Jennifer VanVliet and Allison Putlak at bow. In the First Novice Eight is coxswain Olivia Vlahos, Katherine Windsor, Chelsea Miller, Melissa Drezdzon, Molly Gruber, Amber Meyer, Kate Moran, Erica Revering and Nicolette Marquardt at bow. In the 2N8 is coxswain Mahogany Ellis, McKenzie Fitzgerald, Jen Kohl, Kelly Brickl, Mackenzie Strylund, Kathryn DeSmidt, Cassie Meyer, Katherine Rosploch, Becca Curtis at bow.
