Saturday night offered the opportunity for the best male gymnasts in the Big Ten to show what they could do in the individual portion of the conference championships in Champaign, Ill.
While several Gophers represented the maroon and gold proudly, none did more so than freshman Zack Chase .
Chase tied for first-place on the vault with Mike Behles of Ohio State as each gymnasts scored 16.25. Chase's performance comes just one night after he scored a team season-high 16.4 on the vault.
"That was great," Minnesota head coach Mike Burns said of Chase's performances. "It's really hard to repeat a performance like that, but he managed to do almost two identical and outstanding routines."
The Gophers were well represented by freshman on the vault as rookie gymnasts Matt Frey and Adam Kern finished in ninth and tenth place, respectively.
The other strong performance of the night was Russell Dabritz who came in second on the parallel bars with a score of 14.9. "It was Russell's best set of the year on the parallel bars, what a time to do it at the Big Ten Championships," Burns said.
Following the meet, the Big Ten released its list of award recipients. The Gophers were well represented as Zack Chase and DJ Repp each made first-team all-Big Ten, and Russell Dabritz was named the second-team all-Big Ten. Below is the list of all the award winners:
