Gophers End Season Eighth at Big Ten Championship

After posting the second lowest team score of the day with a 283 on Sunday, the University of Minnesota men's golf team earned an eighth place finish at the Big Ten Championship. The Gophers concluded the 54-hole on Sunday with a final score of 1196, just six strokes back of fourth place at the final even of the season at West Lafayette, Indiana.

Erik Van Rooyen capped his impressive sophomore season with a fourth place finish at the annual conference tournament. The South African shot a two-under 69 on Sunday to end four strokes behind medalist Luke Guthrie of champion Illinois.

Senior Donald Constable finished tied for 26th after a final round 76 and David Haley Jr. tied for 32nd after a two under-69 over his final 18 holes.

Senior Cameron White ended his collegiate career with a one-over-par 73 to earn a tie for 32nd in the standings, while Jon Trasamar posted an even-par 72 to tie for 41st .

Northwestern placed runner up at the 11 team tournament, finishing 19 strokes back (1179) of the Illini. Iowa (1181) took third, with Ohio State (1190) and Indiana (1192) completing the top five.

Chris Brant of Iowa fired a two-under, 70 to earn second place, with Northwestern's David Lipsky taking home third.

The spring season is now concluded for the Gophers. However, Donald Constable and Erik Van Rooyen may be selected to play as individuals at next week's NCAA Regional tournament.
