2012 Freshman Complete J.O. Competitive Season

The women's gymnastics incoming freshmen have completed their 2011 high school and Junior Olympic competitive season. Kylie Schermann (Lakeville, Minn.) and Cierra Tomson (Jacksonville, Fla.) advanced to the Junior Olympic National Championship, while Jenny Covers (Prairie Grove, Ill.) qualified for J.O. Regionals after sustaining an injury earlier in the season.
Kylie Schermann, training at TAGS South, earned her third trip to the J.O. National Championship. At the national meet, she tied for 5th on floor with a score of 9.65 and earned a 12th-place finish in the all-around. At the J.O. Region 4 Championships, Kylie was the runner up in the all around, placed second on floor, third on vault and beam, and sixth on bars. In the Minnesota J.O. State Championships, she tied for fourth on beam and floor, with a fifth-place finish in the all-around.
Kylie will graduate from Lakeville North High School this spring.
Cierra Tomson earned her second appearance at the J.O. National Championship in 2011 after also qualifying in 2008. At nationals, she tied for sixth on vault with a 9.625, and came in 19th in the all around competition. At the J.O. Region 8 Championships, Cierra tied for third place in the all around, and was fifth on bars, seventh on vault and beam, and ninth on floor. Due to an injury, Cierra did not compete at the Florida J.O. State Championship, but she petitioned to earn a spot at the regional meet. She trains at Gymnastics Unlimited.
Cierra will graduate from Seacoast Christian Academy this spring.
Jenny Covers was the Illinois High School champion on vault, bars, and the all around. Her vault title was her third, and she won the all around crown for the second time in her career. Due to an injury, Jenny did not compete at the Illinois J.O. State Championship, but she petitioned to earn a spot at the J.O. Region 5 meet. At regionals, she was the runner up on vault and placed seventh on bars, but did not qualify to the national meet after having limited time to prepare for regionals because of her injury. Jenny is training at Crystal Lake Gymnastics.
Jenny will graduate from Prairie Ridge High School this spring.
Kylie, Cierra and Jenny will all join the Golden Gophers this fall.
