After two rounds of individual play at the NCAA Tournament - San Diego Regional, Minnesota men's golf team members Donald Constable and Erik Van Rooyen sit in ties for 41st and 57th respectively with one round remaining.
Entering the day tied for 16th after a solid even-par 72 during Thursday's opening round of play, Constable struggled to a 77 in the second round. Sitting at one-over par after eight holes, Constable made a nine on the par five ninth hole which soured his Friday round. The senior was able to post an even-par 36 on his back nine despite a double-bogey on hole 16 to finish five-over-par on the day.
After a first round 80, Van Rooyen settled in during the second round with a one-over par 73. Starting on hole ten, the sophomore birdied two holes and made a pair of bogeys to shot an even par 36 on the front nine. Though South African stumbled with consecutive bogeys on holes 3 and 4, he was able to right the ship with a birdie on hole six and pared out to finish the day on the right foot. For the tournament, Van Rooyen sits at nine-over par.
UCLA's Patrick Cantlay is the current leader at eight-under-par. USC maintains its lead in the team portion of the event over second place UCLA by four strokes with 18 holes to play. Ohio State is third, 11 strokes back of the lead.
Final round play is scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m. CT. Live scoring continue to be available at www.golfstat.com.
