Four regular-season home meets highlight the 2011-12 University of Minnesota men's gymnastics schedule, which was released Thursday by head coach Mike Burns.
The Gopher gymnasts will actually compete in front of the home crowd at the Sports Pavilion five times in total, as they kick things off with an exhibition meet against the Minnesota Alumni on Dec. 4.
"We'll start our season off with a bang with the 45th Annual Alumni Meet," Burns said. "This year, we've moved the meet to early December and it should be another fun event for both the varsity and the old-timers."
The regular season gets under way on Jan. 14 in Chicago at the Windy City Invitational.
"We'll kick off our season as usual with the Windy City Invite," Burns said. "This meet has been going strong for decades and continues to be a great meet to start the season."
The Gophers open their home schedule with a matchup against the UIC (Illinois-Chicago) Flames on Jan. 21. Other home matches include dates with Nebraska (Feb. 18), Iowa (March 3) and Oklahoma and Ohio State (March 24).
"Our home meet schedule will bring some tough competition to town," Burns said. "These will be great competitions for us and our fans."
The road schedule will be difficult as well. The Gophers travel to such locations as Air Force (Jan. 28), Iowa (Feb. 11), UIC (Feb. 25), Nebraska (March 10) and Penn State (March 17). Minnesota will also be taking part in the Winter Cup in Las Vegas.
"We hit some tough competition on the road," Burns said. "The road schedule in 2012 will pit us against some great opponents and we will be tested every weekend."
The season wraps up with the Big Ten Championships April 6-7 in Iowa City and the NCAA Championships, which will be held at the University of Oklahoma in Norman, Okla.
