Courtney Haase will join the Golden Gopher rowing staff as an assistant coach, head coach Wendy Davis announced Wednesday. Haase brings with her seven years of coaching and recruiting experience. She replaces Becca Carlton as the varsity assistant coach.

For the past four years, Haase served as assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at her alma mater, Gonzaga University. In her role as novice coach, she guided the Bulldogs' Novice 8+ boat to the 2011 WIRA title. She handled off-campus recruiting efforts, including traveling to recruiting fairs and high school rowing programs, in addition to organizing on-campus recruiting.

Haase rowed at Gonzaga from 2000 to 2003 while earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology. She earned All-WIRA first-team honors as a senior as part of the Varsity 8+ boat named Northwest Crew of the Year. She was named All-West Coast Conference coxswain twice, and raced with the Varsity 8+ to three WCC championships.

In 2004, Haase took an assistant coaching position at St. Mary's College of California, where she recruited on campus and coached the novices. In 2005, she returned to Gonzaga as assistant coach and boathouse manager. Haase had been in her most recent position at Gonzaga since 2007.

"We excited to have Courtney join the Golden Gopher family," head coach Wendy Davis said. "From her experience both as a Division I athlete and as a coach, she will bring a wealth of knowledge to our program."
