Haley Spencer Competes in 100 Breast Finals

Since Ashley Steenvoorden's victory in the 400-meter freestyle on Tuesday, two other current Golden Gophers have made it to the night session of the ConocoPhillips USA Swimming National Championships. Both Haley Spencer and Tess Behrens competed during the evening hours in Palo Alto, Calif.
Spencer raced in the `A' final of the 100-meter breaststroke on Thursday. The 2011 NCAA 200-yard breast champion finished sixth with a time of 1:08.64. Her prelims time was 1:08.85. Former Gopher Keri Hehn finished 12th in the event (1:09.01).
On Wednesday, Behrens made the `B' final in the 100 back. She finished 18th (1:02.28). Behrens also competed in both free relays.
Other Wednesday and Thursday finishers with Golden Gopher ties included Lauren Weis (41st), Ashley Steenvoorden (46th), and Kiera Janzen (74th) in the 200 free; Hannah Whitehead (t-92nd) in the 200 free and 100 back (t-95th); Tori Simenec (t-73rd) in the 50 free; Lauren Greenberg (70th) and Molly Belk (141st) in the 100 breast; and Kristen Steenvoorden (91st) and Hailey Szews (t-107th) in the 400 individual medley. The 18th-place Minnesota 4x100 relay squad members were Weis, Behrens, Whitehead, and Ashley Steenvoorden. The 11th-place 4x200 free relay team was comprised of Kristen Steenvoorden, Weis, Whitehead, and Behrens.
