The Gopher Invitational concluded late this afternoon after rain forced the final day of competition indoors at Baseline Tennis Center.
The three-day event was divided into four flights in singles and two in doubles. Joining the Gophers in the tournament were participants from Bradley, Gustavus, Iowa, Iowa State, LSU, Missouri, UW-Milwaukee and Wisconsin.
The tournament was the first of six fall events that Minnesota will play in. Six Gophers participated in the tournament, while sophomore Pauline Gilbert and freshmen Julia Courter and Aria Lambert all made their collegiate debuts this weekend.
Courter won her first three matches in straight sets to advance to the final of the second flight where she fell 6-4, 6-0 to Iowa's Ellen Silver to place second. Courter was 3-1 in singles this weekend and 2-2 in doubles with Lambert.
Senior Magdalena Wiecha and junior Alexa Palen went 3-1 in doubles in the top flight and defeated Jamie Mera and Maria Christensen of Missouri 8-5 in the third-place match.
Gilbert won her singles match on Saturday, but Lambert did not.
Minnesota returns to action next weekend at the Northern Iowa Invitational.
