After a few weeks off from competition, the Minnesota men's golf team is ready to travel to South Bend, Ind., for the Fighting Irish Golf Classic, hosted by Notre Dame. The first two rounds will be played Monday, Sept. 26, with the third round following on Tuesday.

The Golden Gophers' travel squad for the tournament is comprised of Erik Van Rooyen, Robert Bell, Tim Peterzen, David Haley, Jr., and Jon Trasamar. Van Rooyen (t-12th) and Bell (t-14th) were the Gophers' top finishers at the Gopher Invitational. The fact that the tournament was in Minnesota gave head coach John Carlson a chance to see more than five players in the season-opening event. This gave those players an opportunity to earn consideration for the Classic travel squad.

"Jon Trasamar and Timmy Peterzen kind of worked their way into the lineup following a couple good final rounds at the Spring Hill tournament, and they ended up qualifying this week," Carlson said.

There will be a shotgun start at 8:00 CT on Monday. Live results will be available at golfstat.com.

The course: Warren Golf Course is a par 70 course. It is 7,023 yards. Undulated greens make for tough putting and highlight the importance of distance control. Carlson's take: "It's one of the best championship courses on a college campus in the country."

The field: The Gophers are the only Big Ten team in the field. Other squads competing are Eastern Michigan, Georgetown, Houston, Lamar, Miami (Ohio), Missouri, Notre Dame, San Francisco, St. Mary's, UT-Arlington, and Villanova.

Notes: Minnesota last competed in the Notre Dame tournament in 2008, finishing fourth…the Gophers' next tournament will be the N.C. State Invitational (Oct. 3-4).
