Abda, Hutton Capture Titles at Holiday Inn Invitational

The No. 15 Minnesota men's track and field team kicked off its 2012 season at the Holiday Inn Invitational Friday night inside the Devaney Sports Center in Lincoln, NE. Harun Abda caputed a title in the 1,000 meter and Nick Hutton picked up a title in the mile for the Gophers.
Abda clocked in at 2:26.32 to win the overall race, while teammate David Pachuta was right behind him coming in at 2:26.50 for second place. Joe McFarland finished fourth with a time of 2:30.10.
Sean King and Cameron Boy each raced in the 60-meter dash and will be in the finals on Saturday. King finished fifth (6.91) and Boy was sixth (6.94).
Not only did Hutton take first in the mile (4:11.61), but the Gophers finished with five runners in the top 10. Travis Burkstrand was second (4:12.54), John Simons third (4:12.58), Marcus Paulson fourth (4:13.83) and Blayne Dulian finished six with a time of 4:19.45.
Kevin Lachowitzer was the lone Gopher to compete in the 3,000 meter run and he clocked in a time of 8:50.80
The Gophers will have two competitors in the 60-meter hurdle finals tomorrow after Ryan Todhunter (8.24) and Alex Migit (8.32) each qualified for Minnesota.
Over to the field events Oladipo Fagbemi qualified for the finals in the long jump with a leap of 6.84m (22-0 ¼). Sam Kettenhofen (22-8) and Jack Szmanda (21-3 ½) each competed in the unseeded flight.
Minnesota will close out the Holiday Inn Invitational tomorrow morning starting at Noon with the pole vault event.
