WHATS UP THIS WEEKEND?
This weekend the No. 18 Minnesota men's track and field team will participate in the third annual Bill Bergan Multi-Event and Invitational. The three-day event will be this Thursday through Saturday inside the Lied Recreation Center. The multi-event competition will feature a men's heptathlon on Thursday and Friday afternoon. Both days are scheduled for a 1 p.m. CST start. The Invitational events are scheduled for a 9:30 a.m. start on Saturday with the men's weight throw.
Minnesota along with Wisconsin will be present at the three day meet, which will also feature Missouri Kansas State, as well as Marquette, North Dakota, North Dakota State, South Dakota and South Dakota State.

LAST WEEK
Harun Abda and David Pachuta each set new UM Fieldhouse records to help guide the Gophers to a Jack Johnson Classic title this afternoon. The Gophers finished the two-day classic with 202 team points.
Senior Hassan Mead won a title in the 3,000m in his first race of the indoor season. Mead finished with a time of 8:03.84.
Minnesota finished one-two in the 400m with Kevin Bradley and Jacob Capek. Bradley clocked in at 48.38 for the overall title and Capek finished in 48.78.
The 4x400 meter relay team of Jacob Capek, John Holton, Pachuta and Kevin Bradley brought home a first place finish with a time of 3:15.30 and Minnesota also picked up three more titles in the field events. Trey Davis (shot put), Micah Hegerle (weight throw) and Oladipo Fagbemi (triple jump) all won titles for the Maroon and Gold. Davis launched the shot 17.64m (57-10 ½), Hegerle picked up a title in the weight throw with a toss of 20.36m (66-9 ¾) and Fagbemi won the triple jump with a leap of 15.03m (49-3 ¾).
THE GOLDEN GOPHER COACHING STAFF
Steve Plasencia enters his fourth season as the Golden Gophers head men's track & field coach. Plasencia was awarded his fifth consecutive Big Ten Coach of the Year award, adding the 2011 indoor accolade to those from the 2009 and 2010 indoor and outdoor seasons. Plasencia heads an extremely experienced coaching staff that includes assistants Scott Berggren, Paul Thornton, Lynden Reder, Steve White and Roy Griak.
