Minnesota Starts 2012 Outdoor Season in San Diego

The Minnesota Men's track and field team will travel west to California for their first outdoor event of 2012. Minnesota's throwers will be competing at the Aztec Invitational March 16-17, in San Diego, Calif. The Gophers wrapped up the indoor season last weekend in Nampa, ID.

WRAP UP FROM INDOOR
Minnesota finished the 2012 indoor season with six All-Americans. Hassan Mead (5,000 meters), Micah Hegerle (weight throw), the 4x400 relay team of Kevin Bradley, Harun Abda, David Pachuta and John Holton all claimed All-American honors. Pachuta also earned first team All-American honors for his 800 meter performance. Abda and Travis Burkstrand picked up second-team All-American honors in the 800.

A LOOK AT THIS WEEKEND
The throwers will be the first pack of Gophers to get a glimpse of the outdoor season. Minnesota will have entries in the shot put, hammer, discus and javelin out in San Diego.

Senior Paul Hoplin will get his first crack of 2012 in the javelin, along with Jake Malm.

In the discus, Trey Davis, Quentin Mege, Micah Hegerle will compete. Mege, Hegerle and Jon Lehman will all throw the hammer as well.
