Minnesota will play in the first annual Clover Cup tournament in Mesa, Ariz., this weekend. The 12-team field will play one round each day March 16-18. Live scoring will be available through golfstat.com.
The Gophers had some time off from competition following the Central District Invitational, an event that saw them post a season-low 294 in the final round. Head coach Michele Redman was impressed with her team's course management, and hopes to see even more improvement after a few more weeks of practice.
"After playing two tournaments two weeks in a row, we knew what we needed to work on," Redman said. "So I'm going to be excited to see how the young ladies respond to some of the things we've been having them do in practice."
The field: Cincinnati, Colorado, Florida International, Furman, Iowa State, Michigan, host Notre Dame, Oklahoma, SMU, Texas Tech, and Tulsa will join Minnesota this weekend. Colorado is the highest ranked team in the field at No. 15. "It's going to be a really good field for us," Redman said.
The course: The par-72 Longbow Golf Club course will play at about 6,200 yards. "We do know it's a little bit tight, so obviously course management's going to be a big deal," Redman said.
Notes: Banchalee Theinthong leads the team with a 75.33 stroke average through 18 roundsĆ¢ā¬Ā¦the Gophers' next tournament will be the Lady Buckeye Invitational (April 21-22).
