Minnesota Rowing Concludes Action at Oak Ridge Invitational

The University of Minnesota women's rowing team concluded competition at the Oak Ridge Invitational on Melton Hill Lake in Oak Ridge, Tenn., Sunday morning with a trio of second-place finishes vs. Virginia and Duke.
The first varsity eight squad of coxswain Sara Baldvins, Christine Beauparlant, Ellen Hughes, Ali Haws, Rebecca Braak, Molly Kalmoe, Kayla Thom, Becky Kinchen and Rachel Sartor finished behind No. 1-ranked Virginia and Duke, who is receiving votes in the latest CRCA/USRowing Coaches Poll - presented by Pocock Racing Shells with a time of 6:24.39, trailing second-place Duke by just over two seconds.
The Maroon and Gold's first varsity four, second varsity four and second varsity eight boats each claimed second-place honors for Minnesota behind the Cavaliers.
The 1V4 of coxswain Jacqueline Stein, Chelsea Miller, Jaime Friscia, Nicolette Marquardt and Melissa Drezdzon defeated the Blue Devils with a time of 7:13.67, and the 2V4, made up of coxswain Rachael Rogers, Sarah Sobek, Alexandria Voss, Erica Revering and Katherine Moran also grabbed a second-place finish ahead of Duke with a time of 7:25.95.
The second varsity eight team of coxswain Emilie Sabourin, Caitlin Boon, Tabitha Andelin, Kathryn Switalski, Lynn Hodnet, Katherine Windsor, Sarah Sobek, Maddy Bourgeois and Katie Anderson clocked in at 6:33.99, only 01.44 seconds behind Virginia, who placed first in 6:32.40.
The Gophers are back in action March 24, when they travel to Iowa City, Iowa for a Big Ten match-up with the Hawkeyes.
