The University of Minnesota women's rowing team had a successful outing Saturday morning in a scrimmage against Big Ten rival Iowa, getting some quality experience before the novice opens its season March 31-April 1 at the San Diego Classic and the varsity continues competition April 7 in a Big Ten double-dual vs. Indiana and Ohio State.
"This was a good test of how we're progressing after spring break," head coach Wendy Davis said. "Even with an illness within our 1V8, everyone stepped up into the higher boats and handles the change in lineups really well."
The first varsity eight won both of its pieces by three-quarters to one full length of open water, while the second varsity eight won each of their pieces by one-third length of open water. The first varsity four and the second varsity four were able to claim victories over the Hawkeyes by open water.
The novice boats also got their first taste of Big Ten competition in the scrimmage, winning three of their four pieces.
