The University of Minnesota's 2011-12 winter sports teams had 67 student-athletes earn Academic All-Big Ten recognition, conference officials announced on Wednesday. Four members of the women's gymnastics team were included on the list of honorees.
In order to qualify for Academic All-Big Ten honors, student-athletes must be letterwinners in at least their second academic year at their institution and carry a career grade-point average (GPA) of 3.0 or better.
Seniors Lucy Ennis and Briana Jones each earned their third career Academic All-Big Ten honors. Ennis is majoring in an inter-college program centered around nursing while Jones is a physiology major.
Junior Janell Campbell also received the accolade for her efforts as a communications studies major.
Sophomore Kayla Slechta made the Academic All-Big Ten list for the first time and is currently undecided on a major.
The No. 17-ranked Gophers will compete Saturday, April 7 in Salt Lake City, Utah at NCAA Regionals.
