Minnesota Novice Rowers Ready for San Diego Crew Classic

The University of Minnesota novice rowers will be back in action this weekend when they make the long trip to San Diego, Calif., to compete in the 39th renewal of the San Diego Crew Classic on Mission Bay. The event will get underway at 9:30 a.m. CT, while the Gophers will take to the water for the first time beginning at 1:20 p.m.

The First Novice Eight of coxswain Danica Rog, Haylee Davis, Samantha Otterson, Anna Swanson, Kathleen Charley, Mary Prior, Kalee Kemmesat, Silvia Coleman and Shannon Boardway will open things up for the Maroon and Gold in Heat A of the Women's Collegiate Novice event, racing against UC Irvine, Oklahoma, Sacramento State, Stanford, San Diego and Orange Coast College.

Meanwhile, the Second Novice eight made up of coxswain Paige Burgeson, Amy VanHeel, Amanda Lueck, Sarah Schulte, Ashley Finck, Aleah Laughlin, Eleanor Ludkey and Caitlyn Slawny will take on USC, San Diego State, California, Clemson, Texas B and UCLA in Heat C of the Women's Collegiate Novice event.

Also competing in the event in Heat B will be Kansas State, UC Davis, St. Mary's, Washington State, Oregon State, Washington and Texas.

The top two finishers in each heat will advance to the Grand Final of the San Diego Crew Classic Sunday morning, while the third and fourth place finishers in each heat will compete in the Petite Final Saturday afternoon.
