Sanders Earns a Spot at U.S. Olympic Team Trials

Four-time All-American Zach Sanders earned a spot at this month's U.S. Olympic Team Trials over the weekend, with a title in the 55 kg/121 lbs. Representing the Minnesota Storm, Sanders posted a 2-0,2-0 decision over Michael Martinez in the championship. The Wabasha native picked up a huge 6-3, 3-2 decision over Troy Nickerson, in the semifinals of the Final U.S. Olympic Trials Qualifier in Cedar Falls. Nickerson was an NCAA Champion and four-time All-American at Cornell University.

Sanders will have his eyes set on the London and the 2012 Olympics as he prepares now for the 2012 U.S. Olympic Team Wrestling Trials, April 21-22. The event will be held in Iowa City, IA inside Carver Hawkeye Arena on the campus of the University of Iowa. For more information on the trials click here.

Sanders finished up his career last month in the Maroon and Gold with a 3rd place finish at the 2012 NCAA Wrestling Championships. It was the highest finish as a Golden Gopher career and he closed out his career ranked No. 6 on the all-time wins list (134-27) for Minnesota.
