The Golden Gophers tallied four event wins on a rainy day at the Holst Invitational. Saturday was the first and only day of competition for the meet, hosted by Concordia University in St. Paul.
Cassy Opitz won the 800-meter run with the fastest time of her career, bettering the previous mark she set in winning the event at the Hamline Invitational. Her time of 2:14.63 beat the previous meet record by more than 10 seconds. Minnesota runners took eight of the top 10 spots in the race.
Minnesota won three of the throwing events. Gophers took the top five places in the hammer throw, with Jeri Johnson-Chambers taking home the win with a throw of 165-06 (50.45m). Tina DeLakis broke the meet record with a winning throw of 47-06 1/4 (14.48m) in the shot put for her third victory in the event this spring. Devin Stanford, who won the discus at the Georgia meet last weekend, won today with a toss of 139-02 (42.43m).
