For the 6th straight year, the Student-Athlete Affairs Department has organized a 5k race in order to raise money for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. The 5k race was made `virtual' this year so that runners across the country could participate and raise money for an illness that affects 70,000 people worldwide. There were many representatives that ran the 5k outside of Minnesota, including runners in Texas, Florida, Wisconsin, Iowa, New Hampshire, Delaware, Indiana, Oklahoma, and South Dakota! Shannon Pease, who ran her race in conjunction with a half marathon in Oklahoma stated: "Running in the Virtual 5k gave me an opportunity to run it over Thanksgiving break while visiting family in Oklahoma! I enjoy running half marathons and 5k's and I would definitely like to run another virtual race, especially if it supports a great cause."

Prizes were given to randomly selected finishers, due to the nature of a virtual race, so many people registered for the 5k for different reasons. Some families had personal connections to the cause, while others took the 5k as a way to spend time with family or friends, by walking to see the Christmas lights, taking a jog on the beach, or hiking to enjoy the mountain views. Thank you to all the participants who made the CF Virtual 5k a success! For all those interested in joining in on the next one, stay tuned for details for a Spring Virtual 5k!
