HAMILTON, N.Y. - The No. 1 Minnesota women's hockey team skated to an 8-3 win over Colgate University to complete a sweep over the Raiders in the season-opening series at Starr Rink Saturday afternoon.

Nine Gophers recorded points in the win, including seven multi-point efforts. Rachael Bona (Coon Rapids, Minn.), Hannah Brandt (Vadnais Heights, Minn.) and Maryanne Menefee (Lansing, Mich.) led the Gophers with four points each. Bona and Menefee each tallied two goals and two assists while Brandt posted four assists.

Junior Rachel Ramsey (Chanhassen, Minn.) scored two goals, and senior Sarah Davis (Paradise, N.L.) and Milica McMillen (St. Paul, Minn.) each added two points on one goal and one assist. Freshman Kelsey Cline (Bloomington, Minn.) recorded her first-career points with a pair of assists.

Sophomore Amanda Leveille (Kingston, Ont.) made 24 saves, while Colgate's Ashlynne Rando made 14 saves before Susan Allen stopped 17 shots in relief. Minnesota outshot Colgate, 39-27.

The teams combined for six first-period goals, and the Gophers took a 4-2 lead into the first intermission. The Raiders and Gophers exchanged two goals over a 94-second span beginning when Colgate opened the scoring at the 9:59 mark of the period. Ramsey and Menefee scored game-tying goals after Colgate took 1-0 and 2-1 leads.

Davis then broke a 2-2 tie with a power-play goal at 13:16 of the first period, and Minnesota never looked back. Bona added her first goal of the game with 31 seconds remaining in the period to give the Gophers a 4-2 lead after the opening frame.

The Gophers (2-0-0) added two second-period tallies from Menefee and Bona. Following Bona's goal, Allen replaced Rando in net for Colgate. The Raiders were not without opportunities in the second stanza, out-shooting Minnesota 12-9 with eight shots on two power plays.

Colgate's Kueber scored her second of the game on the Raiders' fourth power-play opportunity to cut the Gophers' lead to three, 6-3, with 12:47 remaining. McMillen and Ramsey pumped in insurance goals in the final six minutes to seal Minnesota's 51st consecutive win.

The Gophers were 3-for-6 on the power play with nine shots, while holding the Raiders to 1-for-6 with the man advantage. Fifteen of Colgate's 27 shots came on the power play.
