After the team's second Big Ten win of the season, it was announced on Nov. 5 that Daryl Turner was awarded the honor of being Freshman of the Week. The University of Minnesota men's swimming and diving team competed last weekend Nov. 1 against the University of Iowa Hawkeyes. Finishing with a score of 174-126, the men's team currently stands at 3-1 in the season (2-0 Big Ten).

The freshman earns the Big Ten recognition after helping secure Minnesota's defeat over the Hawkeyes. Turner placed first in the 100-yard freestyle by swimming a time of 44.58, which also gave him a career best top time in the event. Individually he also placed second in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 48.55.

The Colorado native is also a strong performer for Minnesota relays. As a member of the 200-yard medley race, Turner combined to receive second in the event with a time of 1:28.71. With a time of 2:58.62 Minnesota took first in the 400-yard freestyle relay which also included Turner as the lead-off swimmer.

Daryl Turner now holds three Big Ten weekly awards in his debut season for the Golden Gophers. One of the awards being Swimmer of the Week (Oct. 8) and two being Freshman of the Week (Oct. 22, Nov.5).
