Haley Spencer is the top seed in the 200 breast final

As the final day of the 2013 Big Ten Women's Swimming and Diving Championships kicked off, the No. 12 Gophers qualified 14 women to Saturday night's finals. Minnesota will have seven competitors in the championship heat as well as seven in the consolation. The Gophers have a 151-point lead heading into the finals.

Katie Anton will lead Minnesota in the 200 back championship finals after her time of 1:55.69 to give her the eighth seed. Tess Behrens will compete in the consolation final in the 13th seed with her time of 1:56.86.

The Gophers will have a strong showing in the 100 free with freshman Lauren Votava seeded fourth at 49.22 and Erin Caflisch seeded seventh with a time of 49.28 in the championship final. Rebecca Weiland (49.31) and Blake Zeiger (49.43) will sit in the ninth and 11th seeds in the consolation heat.

The championship heat of the 200 breast will be one to watch Saturday night between the Gophers. Senior Haley Spencer notched a NCAA "A" qualifying time of 2:07.26 for the top seed in the final, while freshman Kierra Smith will swim by her side in the second seed after her time of 2:09.53. Emma Jackson will be competing in the consolation heat as the 12th seed (2:14.27). Former Gopher Jillian Tyler holds the 200 breaststroke record at 2:06.01.

Devin Ste. Marie will represent Minnesota in the championship final as the second seed in the 200 fly with her prelim time of 1:56.68. The consolation final will be made up Annalise Colton in the 10 seed (1:59.39), Tori Simenec in the 11th (2:00.04) and Lauren Zima in the 12th (2:00.36).

The preliminaries of the 1,650 freestyle will begin at 3:45 pm this afternoon. The championship final of the event will be the first event of Saturday night's finals where Minnesota's Kiera Janzen is seeded sixth with a time of 16:24.83.

The final session of the Championships begins at 6:30 pm Saturday night. The order of events are as followed: 1,650 freestyle, 200 backstroke, 100 freestyle, 200 breaststroke, 200 butterfly, platform diving and 400 freestyle relay.
