Gophers Finish Sixth at Hurricane Invitational

The University of Minnesota women's golf team finished in sixth place with a score of 921 (306-302-313) at the Hurricane Invitational in Coral Gables, Fla. It was the first tournament of the spring season as well as the first tournament action for the Gophers since the final round of the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown on Oct. 23.
The Gopher's score of 921 exactly matches the first team score of the 2012 Fall season when the Gophers competed at the Mary Fossum Invitational. Baylor and Texas State battled back and forth all tournament for first place, but it was Baylor that secured the top spot with a team score of 883 (31).
Junior Banchalee Theinthong led the Gophers with a final score of 222, tying her season low from the fall season, and allowing her to secure her third-career top-10 finish. Sophomores Sarinee Thitiratanakorn and Anna Laorr both finished tied for 46th with total scores of 236.
Redshirt sophomore Taylor Quinn, playing the tournament as an individual, finished tied for 41st overall with a total score of 235. She was able to trim a total of 11 strokes off her card between rounds one and three and shot a third round team-low score of 74, her lowest score as a collegiate.
Senior Jackie Shepherd recorded a54-holel score of 239 and tied for 55th place. Sophomore Carmen Laguna carded 75's in the first and second rounds but was left out of contention after being disqualified in the third round due to a scoring card issue.
Up next for the Gophers is another trip to the Sunshine State, this time to Tampa for the Central District Invitational Feb. 18-19.
