Gophers Drop a Pair of Close Matches at B1G Matchplay

The University of Minnesota men's golf team opened the spring portion of its schedule with a pair of close losses at the 2013 Big Ten Match Play at Concession Golf Club in Bradenton, Fla. The Gophers will play the University of Nebraska on Saturday morning in their final match of the event. Nebraska dropped matches to Purdue and Wisconsin.
The Gophers lost to Michigan 3-2 in the morning round and 3-1-1 to Penn State in the consolation round. Senior Erik Van Rooyen defeated the Wolverine's Chris O'Neill 6&5 and sophomore Tyler Lowenstein topped Noori Hyun 3&1.
Jon Trasamar won the lone match 1-up against Penn State's Geoff Vartelas while Van Rooyen halved his match with Jens Talbert.
Illinois will face Ohio State and Iowa will matchup with Michigan State in the semifinal matches on Saturday morning. The winners will faceoff in the afternoon for the 2013 B1G Match Play title.
