Gophers Finish B1G Matchplay with a Win over Nebraska

The University of Minnesota men's golf team defeated Nebraska 3-2 on Saturday in its final match of the Big Ten Match Play in Florida. The Gophers finished 1-2 in the event.
Senior Erik Van Rooyen got the Gophers on the board with a 5&4 victory over the Huskers' Kolton Lapa. The native of South Africa played solid all weekend, finishing with a 2-0-1 record. Freshman Jon DuToit picked up a 2-up win over Ross Dickson and Jon Trasamar finished a perfect 2-0 weekend with a 1-up victory over Josh Reinertson.
The University of Illinois, the top seeded team coming into the event, did not drop a match on the weekend, en route to the title. The Illini defeated Michigan and Ohio State in the quarterfinals and semifinals, respectively, before a 5-0 victory over Michigan State in the finals. The Spartans reached the finals with victories over Penn State, Northwestern and Iowa.
Minnesota will take a couple of weeks off before traveling to Goodyear, Ariz. for the 2013 Snowman Getaway Invitational Feb. 24-26.
