PARK RIDGE, ILL. - Junior right-hander Sara Moulton has been named Big Ten Pitcher of the Week, as announced by the conference office on Monday afternoon.
It's the second week in a row that Moulton has been recognized by the Big Ten, and it's her sixth career Pitcher of the Week award.
Moulton once again dominated a weekend tournament by going 3-0 with a 1.09 ERA and recording her second no-hitter of the season at Auburn's War Eagle Classic. She improved to 10-4 on the season by opening the tournament with a no-hitter against Middle Tennessee, then picking up a win against Auburn, and finishing by tying her career-high with 15 strikeouts in a win versus Gardner-Webb.
The no-hitter on Friday against MTSU was her second-straight hitless game, and was the fourth no-hitter of her career. When Auburn picked up an infield single for its first hit of the game on Saturday, it snapped a streak of 22.1 consecutive hitless innings for Moulton. She wrapped up Minnesota's appearance at the War Eagle Classic by striking out the first 11 batters of the game against GWU on Sunday.
For the weekend, Moulton worked 19.1 innings, allowing just 11 hits and striking out 26 with just two walks. She leads the Big Ten in strikeouts (115), strikeouts looking (25) and opposing batting average (.155), while ranking among the top five in several other categories.
Minnesota continues play this weekend at Stanford's Louisville Slugger Classic. The Gophers are scheduled to play five games in Palo Alto, beginning with Friday games against Pacific at 12:00 p.m. CT and Stanford at 2:15 p.m. CT.
