On the Wednesday prior to Spring Break the staff of the Student-Athlete Affairs Department arrived at Bierman Field Athletic Building and promptly changed into their uniform for the day: maroon medical scrubs emblazoned with the University of Minnesota logo.
For the day they would be serving as the Resume Doctors, performing procedures varying from minor check-ups to major surgeries on the resumes of student-athletes. A fully functional tailgating "fanbulance" was donated for the day by a community member and stood parked outside the building for the duration of the event.
Student-athlete volunteers staffed the vehicle, distributing hot chocolate and drawing in patients to the event utilizing the sirens and loudspeaker.
Inside the building student-athletes engaged in one-on-one meetings with staff members, collaborating to improve and perfect their resumes for upcoming summer job and internship applications.
Appointments ranged from 5 to 35 minutes in length, and by the end of the day more than 15 student-athletes left with improved resumes and the confidence needed to seek out summer employment.
